Cristian Stellini confirms exactly when Antonio Conte will be back at Spurs

Cristian Stellini has shed further light on the Antonio Conte situation, confirming in his latest press conference that the Tottenham Hotspur manager will return to take charge of the team after the game against Wolves on Sunday.

Conte was absent for most of February after being diagnosed with Cholecystitis and requiring surgery to remove his gallbladder.

The 53-year-old came back to the Spurs dugout for the defeats against Leicester and AC Milan before remaining in Italy for further recovery.

Since then, Cristian Stellini has been overseeing the Tottenham first team, and doing a fine job of it, too. The assistant manager has guided Spurs to wins over Manchester City, West Ham, and Chelsea to lift the Lilywhites into the top four in the Premier League.

Previously, Stellini had suggested Conte would be back in time to take charge of Spurs for the visit to the Molineux Stadium on Saturday (Football.London), but that won’t be the case now.

Earlier today, the Daily Mail confirmed Conte would miss the Wolves game. Now, Stellini has clarified the situation and confirmed exactly when we can expect the head coach to be back in action.

He told George Sessions of PA Sport: “I said he would come back this week and straight after the match against Wolves he will be in London and in charge again from Sunday… the doctors decided this.”

With this in mind, it looks like Conte will be back in the dugout for the crucial Champions League round of sixteen second leg clash against AC Milan on March 8.

Honestly, I’m glad Conte isn’t rushing this return. We saw how much of a negative impact that had previously, and we’d rather have a fully fit and ready Conte than him come back before he’s recovered properly.

Stellini will have one more game to keep up his good run in the league, and then Conte can take over and bring his experience to the Champions League game.
