Not only did it see him overtake Greaves’ tally of 266 but it was also the 29-year-old’s 200th strike in the Premier League, with the Tottenham man joining an exclusive club that contains two legends of the game in Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney.

Kane expressed his pride at writing his name into the history books of his boyhood club, more than eleven years on from his senior debut for Spurs.

Antonio Conte called to congratulate the striker on his achievement following the full-time whistle, with the Tottenham head coach telling the Spurs man that he made him proud (Sky Sports).

Stellini, who took charge of the game in Conte’s absence, has spoken in glowing terms of Kane for his conduct both on and off the pitch.

When asked about working with the striker behind the scenes in his post-match press conference, the Italian told Football.London: “Harry Kane is football. In his DNA, you can smell every time he can show the best football you can see.

“To compare one player like Harry Kane to the top in the history, you have to wait until the end of his career but we want to enjoy every day to see him like we do normally.

“Into the pitch, out of the pitch, during the training, when he speaks to the players, when he speaks to the managers, he shows football. You can understand this in every moment. He is amazing to enjoy and to work with a player like Harry.”
