Cristian Stellini responds to question on whether he could be sacked at Spurs

Cristian Stellini chose to deflect a question on whether his Tottenham future was in question following the Lilywhites’ continued run of woeful form in the Premier League.

Tottenham’s top-four hopes were well and truly dashed by the Magpies this afternoon as Newcastle ran away with a 6-1 victory at St James’ Park.

Spurs would have been hoping to secure back-to-back victories against Newcastle and Man United to force their way back into the Champions League hunt, but fell rather spectacularly at the first hurdle.

Cristian Stellini switched to a back four of Pedro Porro, Eric Dier, Cristian Romero, and Ivan Perisic, partly due to injuries, but saw his side fall five goals behind within just 20 minutes.

Harry Kane managed to take away Newcastle’s clean sheet with an impressive solo goal in the second 45 after Tottenham switched to a back five, but it was an embarrassing day for the Lilywhites.

When asked if his future could be in doubt, Stellini said (Football London): “I have no answer for this. This is not a question for me.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

The only way is up for Tottenham from here, surely. Find a new manager who is prepared to build a long-term project. Hire a managing director who shares the same philosophies. Do your best to offer Kane a contract worth signing. Then rebuild in a meaningful way instead of doing things by halves.
