Crouch hoping for start

Peter Crouch is aiming for a starting spot against Burnley this weekend, after grabbing a hat-trick in the Carling Cup fourth round tie against Preston North End.

Crouch scored three goals, the final one being a clever back-heel, in a 5-1 thrashing of the Championship side and is optimistic he will be rewarded with a role from the start against the newly-promoted Clarets.

He said: “I would be disappointed to be on the bench against Burnley, because I want to play every game.

“When I’m given chances, I can only produce and try to stake a claim for a starting place.

“We’ve done well this season, so I can’t argue too much, but hopefully I’ve done enough.”

Crouch has been forced into a bit-part role as Redknapp has preferred Defoe and Keane as his first choice strikers.

Keane and Defoe were also on target against Preston as Spurs took their goal tally for the season to 22 from eight games, so the Spurs manager has a tough choice on whether to reward his summer signing with the starting berth on Saturday
