Crouch to get England start

Peter Crouch is to be handed a start for England against Belarus on Wednesday.

With Rooney injured, manager Fabio Capello has opted also to drop Emile Heskey, meaning Crouch will be given a starting berth alongside Gabriel Agbonlahor.

England have already qualified as group winners, so Capello will use the Wembley match as a chance to experiment with some of his fringe players.

Crouch had been out of Capello’s England squads until recently, so will hope to use the opportunity to stake a claim for a place in the final 23 for the World Cup.

Capello said, “I want to see Agbonlahor and other players, so the two forwards will be Crouch and Agbonlahor tonight.”
