Ex-Tottenham Hotspur boss, Mauricio Pochettino, was always a big fan of Spurs left-back Ben Davies, and it appears that the feeling was mutual.

Tottenham took the decision to part ways with the Argentine manager yesterday evening after a disappointing start to the 2019/20 season.

While the announcement of Pochettino’s sacking occurred, Ben Davies was actually in action for Wales on international duty.

It must have been a bittersweet moment for the Welsh star has he walked into the dressing room after winning last night.

The 2-0 victory over Hungary meant that Wales had qualified for the Euros in 2020, before Davies then found out that his club manager had been sacked.

While Davies claimed that it was a pleasure to work under Pochettino at Tottenham over the years, he also added that the sacking came as a shock to him.

Perhaps rather controversially, as a current Spurs player, Davies said that Pochettino would go onto bigger and better things.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. Tottenham are becoming a stale cold business more all the time. Mousa Dembele was allowed to leave without so much as a send off and now Poch arguably the best coach of many of our lifetimes and bringer of so many special moments against all odds, is fired without even letting the fans say goodbye and thank you. Who knows what Mourinho will be able to do but Im gutted. Best of luck to Poch, Jesus, Tony and Miguel, you deserve all the good fortune in the world and thank you for everything.
