Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano has dismissed speculation suggesting that Tottenham Hotspur are in the market for Marseille defender Duje Ćaleta-Car.
Crotian news outlet SportKlub had earlier claimed that Spurs had agreed a £20.5million deal with the Ligue 1 side, where the 24-year-old had reportedly agreed on personal terms with the North Londoners ahead of the switch that could be finalised in the next few days.
Romano has poured cold water on the report by insisting that Tottenham have not even held talks with Marseille.
It is not the first time that Ćaleta-Car had been linked with a move to the Premier League after rivals West Ham United were credited with an interest in the Croatian international (The Athletic).
Football.London’s Alasdair Gold Alasdair Gold has previously named central defenders Jules Kounde, Wolfsburg’s Maxence Lacroix, Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar and Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic as options that Tottenham have discussed in addition to their pursuit of Atalanta’s Cristian Romero.
There’s currently nothing going on between Tottenham and Duje Caleta-Car. No agreement on personal terms, not even talks with OM. 🚫 #THFC
Spurs board priority is Cristian Romero as centre-back. Talks still ongoing with Atalanta to reach an agreement. #Spurs

The Ćaleta-Car rumour came out of the blue and has been quickly squashed by Romano.
Spurs fans will be hoping that the club are focusing on targets of the calibre of Jules Kounde and Cristian Romero to improve their central defensive options.
