Dan Kilpatrick provides update on whether Nuno’s future could be in ‘immediate danger’

According to the Evening Standard, Nuno Espirito Santo’s position at Tottenham will not be in danger if he suffers defeat against Manchester United and an under pressure Ole Gunnar Solskjaer later today.

Much of the focus of this evening clash will draw in on two managers facing the heat, with both producing a number of underwhelming and uninspiring performances already this campaign.

But, although Nuno has flattered to deceive at points, it is likely that his managerial counterpart will be under the bigger scrutiny, after watching his side be completely humiliated by arch-rivals Liverpool in a 5-0 defeat at Old Trafford last weekend.

While the Norwegian coach will be desperate to seek a positive result in North London, the Evening Standard understand that Nuno’s job at Spurs will be safe even if he suffers a defeat to United.

Spurs were defeated 1-0 by a spirited West Ham side last weekend, following a poor midweek display in Europe against Vitesse Arnhem.

They followed up with a win against Burnley to book their place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, though, but the performance as a whole proved to be extremely uninspiring on Wednesday night.

It is claimed that Spurs are accepting of a ‘new cycle’ beginning at the club, which makes relieving the manager a last resort considering it could take a lengthy amount of time to translate into tangible success.

Solskjaer will definitely be under bigger pressure this weekend as the world watched his side’s rivals embarrass them on their own turf. Although Nuno’s job appears to be safe for now, he needs to start putting in the results, as things can change in a flash in football.
