Dan Kilpatrick reveals Ange Postecoglou is ready to hand one Spurs player a lifeline

Journalist Dan Kilpatrick has revealed in his column for The Standard that Ange Postecoglou is ready to give opportunities to Oliver Skipp to prove himself over the coming weeks.

Skipp appeared to be on the verge of a breakout season 18 months ago, with many feeling at the time that he could be a key part of Tottenham’s and even England’s future.

However, the midfielder has endured a frustrating time since then, suffering multiple injuries and struggling for any continuity.

His only Premier League start under Postecoglou came in Tottenham’s opening day 2-2 Premier League draw against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium, with the midfielder coming on as a substitute on 11 occasions this season (Transfermarkt).

Skipp to get his chance

Kilpatrick has revealed that Postecoglou is now expected to hand the 23-year-old opportunities to get his career back on track over the next few weeks and months.

With Yves Bissouma suspended for four matches following his red card against Nottingham Forest and with the Malian as well as Pape Matar Sarr set to be unavailable during AFCON, the journalist says that the Aussie coach will turn to Skipp to help his side navigate through this spell.

I fully believe that Skipp is capable of cementing his place in the Tottenham side if he is given a run of successive starts and can rebuild his confidence.

I would rather see Postecoglou start the 23-year-old rather than Hojbjerg against Everton on Saturday as it is clear that the Dane does not have a future under the Australian.
