Dan Kilpatrick reveals when Djed Spence is expected to make Spurs transfer

Djed Spence is expected to join Tottenham from Middlesbrough this week with both clubs still negotiating a transfer fee for the wing-back, according to the Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick.

The report explains Spurs are looking to finalise a move for the talented England U21 international over the next few days, with a deal likely to be in the region of £20 million.

Spence, 21, has been on Tottenham’s radar throughout the summer after catching the eye with a number of strong displays while on loan at Nottingham Forest last term.

He established himself as the club’s main starter at right wing-back, making 46 appearances (Transfermarkt) as Steve Cooper’s side secured promotion to the Premier League.

Forest were keen to acquire Spence on a permanent basis, as were Newcastle and Brentford, while Borussia Dortmund and Roma were named as potential overseas suitors (Football.London).

While an agreement with Spurs has not been reached just yet, Teesside Live explain he reported for pre-season training at Boro’s training ground on Monday after being given an extended break following his commitment on international duty.

Spence finally on the verge of joining is excellent news, although it would have been nice to have seen this deal closed much earlier.

Either way, it looks likely that a move will be finalised before the club heads out to South Korea for pre-season this weekend which Antonio Conte will like very much.
