Dane Scarlett has spoken about his ambitions at Tottenham after producing a poacher’s finish against Auckland FC in Spurs’ second pre‑season match.
Despite fielding an XI that featured not a single senior player apart from Manor Solomon against Auckland FC, Roberto De Zerbi‘s side still managed a 2-0 victory at Eden Park.
A first-half goal from Dane Scarlett, followed by a second-half strike from Richarlison, proved to be the difference between the two sides.
The latest victory now makes it two wins from two for Spurs in pre-season as De Zerbi continues to instil his philosophy into this group of players.

Scarlett was indeed one of the stars of the morning and was one of Spurs Web’s highest-rated players against Auckland.
The young striker has barely got going in a Tottenham shirt despite the huge potential and quality he showed when he first broke through.
Jose Mourinho even described Scarlett as “phenomenal” as he was touted to be the next big thing for Spurs. Against Auckland, he showed his striker’s instinct by reacting quickest to a parried effort and slotting home Spurs’ opener.
Speaking to the club’s official media channels after the game, Scarlett reflected on his return to action following the conclusion of his loan spell at Hibernian.
The striker also shared his thoughts on adapting to De Zerbi’s tactical approach, explaining why he believes the new system suits both him and the rest of the squad after another encouraging pre-season display.
“Yeah, it was really good, really good to get a run out. No, happy to get sixty minutes in the legs and I think it was good for the young boys as well to get opportunity to play, in this kind of environment. It was good.”
Discussing Auckland FC’s performance, he continued: “No, they were good, they were good. Aggressive team, but we dealt with it well. Especially playing in the gaffer’s new style, I think it suits us well.”
Scarlett sends clear message over Spurs ambitions
The Tottenham forward also opened up on his goal for Spurs, which was a real poacher’s effort.
Speaking to the club’s official media channels, Scarlett explained why goals like the one he scored are the type he enjoys the most before also providing an update on how he is feeling physically during pre-season and reflecting on the demands of the trip to Australia.
Speaking about his goal, he said: “Yeah, favourite ones, favourite goals to score yeah.”
On how he is feeling in pre-season, he added: “Uh, I feel good. Just got to keep working this pre-season. Now. I feel physically good.”
Sharing his thoughts on the long trip to Australia and how it has affected the team, he concluded: “I think that’s part and parcel of it though. I think everybody’s obviously tired from the flight, but got to find ways to get through and we did.”
