While a number of Spurs loanees are making promising starts to their temporary spells at new clubs, there is one player who is not getting a look in at all and looks set for another frustrating campaign.
Dane Scarlett unused again
It has not been the ideal start to the season for Dane Scarlett, who was again an unused substitute for Oxford United at the weekend.
Oxford ran away 3-1 winners in a home tie with Preston North End on Saturday afternoon, but Scarlett had to look on from the bench as his new team flourished without him.
That was the second consecutive league game that Scarlett has been left to sit on the bench, and he now has just one minute of action in the Championship.
However, the Spurs striker did get to see a lot more action in midweek, having started Oxford’s Carabao Cup tie with Coventry City. Scarlett played 83 minutes there, but was unable to get on the scoresheet as his team lost 1-0.
The Oxford Mail gave Scarlett a 6 out of 10 match rating for that appearance, writing: “Couldn’t get into the game inside the penalty box, and was forced to drop deep just to get involved.”
A look at the stats
Focusing on that League Cup game, Scarlett managed just one shot all game, which was off target. He also registered just 23 touches, the joint-lowest of all the starting players for Oxford (WhoScored).
In terms of passing, he had a 76.9% accuracy rate from 13 passes. Scarlett made two dribbles in the game, and only one of them was successful.
Spurs Web Opinion
Things have to start looking up for Scarlett soon, otherwise he will very quickly be affected mentally by the idea of two disastrous loan spells. This year is feeling make or break for him, even though he’s still so young.
