‘Dangerous’ – Tottenham forward receives wide praise for national side performance

The Welsh media have been extremely complimentary of Brennan Johnson after his performance against Finland in the Euro qualifiers semifinal.

Wales are now just 90 minutes of football away from making it to their third successive European Championship after they trashed Finald 4-1 at Cardiff City Stadium on Thursday to set up a play-off final clash with Poland.

This is a new era for the Dragons, with their talisman Gareth Bale no longer playing and Johnson is now one of the players they are reliant on to produce the goods in the final third.

The Tottenham man certainly delivered against the Finns, playing as the number nine – a role which he has become accustomed to for his national side.

The 22-year-old worked his socks off for Robert Page’s men and was dangerous all game, getting on the scoresheet at the start of the second half to put his side 3-1 up and give them some breathing space.

Brennan Johnson impresses for Wales

Welsh football site The Football Club wrote about Johnson’s display: “The Spurs man was dangerous running in behind and linked up well with his teammates. He managed to get his goal with poachers like instinct to slot home at the back post.”

Wales Online stated about the Tottenham star: “Was a crucial part of that front-three pendulum. His one-two with Wilson set up Wales’ first, while he won the free-kick for Williams’ goal. Was in the right place to turn home the third, too.”

The Daily Mail were also quite complimentary of Johnson, writing about him: “Worked hard as part of a fluid and pacey front three as Wales continually hit Finland on the break. Poacher’s finish for his goal, which eased any nerves just after half-time.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Johnson shows every single time he plays for Wales that he has the attributes to do well as a centre-forward and I can see the youngster evolving into a number nine over the coming years.

If Wales do qualify for the Euros, the responsibility of leading the line for his country on the big stage will do wonders for the Tottenham man’s development.
