Daniel Levy ignores Rafael Van der Vaart’s plea to sign player

Tottenham’s London rivals Chelsea have now officially confirmed the capture of Ajax winger Hakim Ziyech.

Ziyech has been in sensational form for the Eredivisie giants since joining from FC Twente back in 2014.

He rose to name after playing a crucial role in helping Ajax win the domestic double last season.

He even scored against Spurs in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final in Amsterdam and also hit the woodwork.

He has continued his impressive form this campaign as well notching up up eight goals and twenty-one assists in all competitions for the Dutch giants so far (transfermarkt.com).

Tottenham were also linked with quite heavily a move for the Moroccan international with 90 min reporting a few months ago that Ziyech was the North Londoners’ main target to replace Christian Eriksen in the January window while Calcio Mercato claimed that the Lilywhites were the favourites to land him.

Spurs legend Rafael van der Vaart had recently urged Daniel Levy to complete a deal for Ziyech after revealing that he had sent the chairman a text message; something which appears to have fallen on deaf ears (Voetbal Primeur).

However, it is Chelsea who have beaten Spurs to the signing of the Ajax player with the Blues announcing today that Ziyech will be joining the club in the summer after completing the season with the Dutch giants.

Spurs Web Opinion

While I think Ziyech will prove an excellent addition for Chelsea, I won’t lose much sleep over the fact that we didn’t go in for him. After Begwijn’s addition last month, we are fairly well stocked for wide players and attacking midfielders.
