Daniel Levy opens up on his sleepless nights over the stadium roof

There are a number of standout features on the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium that fans have already fallen in love with ahead of the opening Premier League game against Crystal Palace later tonight.

The iconic golden cockerel on the roof, the seating so close to the pitch, the huge Spurs shop, the endless eateries, and the finishing touches like retro programmes across the walls and traces of the old White Hart Lane in the floors.

However, Daniel Levy has now revealed that the one feature that kept him up at night was the glass roof.

Many told the Spurs chairman that having a glass panel roof was impossible, but it was a feature he insisted on, and they eventually found a way around the issues.

Levy wanted to ensure that the roof still looked new five years from now, as opposed to dirty and worn like some metal stadium roofs can get.

Levy said (Football London): “We had serious sleepless nights on the roof. We wanted glass and everyone said it wasn’t possible. So we found a solution, so this roof will look brand new in five years’ time. If you go to any other stadium, in five years that definitely wouldn’t be the case.”
