Daniel Levy told to appoint 45-year-old manager to get Tottenham fans excited

Alan Hutton has urged Tottenham to appoint one of the biggest names in world football as a replacement for Ange Postecoglou this summer in order to get the supporters excited ahead of next season.

While Premier League managers such as Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva and Thomas Frank have been mooted as Tottenham’s top targets, some other big names have also been linked with the Spurs hot seat over recent weeks.

According to some sources, Tottenham are also eyeing a move for Inter Milan boss Simeone Inzaghi, whose future at the San Siro is not thought to be guaranteed.

It was reported by GiveMeSport two weeks ago that Spurs will also explore moves for elite managers like Carlo Ancelotti and Jurgen Klopp before deciding on Postecoglou’s replacement.

Alan Hutton urges Spurs to appoint former Barcelona manager

Hutton has now put forward another name for the Lilywhites to consider, suggesting that Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez might be the man that Tottenham need.

The former Spurs right-back insisted that the Spaniard can deliver the kind of attacking football that the Tottenham faithful want to see at N17.

Hutton told Boyle Sports: “It would be very special to have Xavi as Spurs manager. We all know how he wants to play football and what he’s done so far. He’s had an outstanding career and you feel that probably the Tottenham fans would probably like that.

“You know he’s going to play a style of football that all Tottenham fans have wanted ever since I’ve been there and before. They want to see exciting football. So it’s probably something that would excite the fans. But look, there’ll be loads of candidates out there if Ange was to leave.

“I look at the likes of Andoni Iraola and what he’s done at Bournemouth has been exceptional. Could somebody like that come in and transform a team? But look, Ange is still on a job at this moment in time and it’s up to him to turn it around.”

Xavi would be a gamble for Tottenham

Given Barca’s disappointing results last season and the way the Catalan giants have improved under Hansi Flick this term, Xavi’s stock is not particularly high right now.

That is demonstrated by the fact that the 45-year-old’s name is not being linked with any of the expected vacancies at big clubs around Europe this summer.

Appointing the Spaniard will be a gamble for Tottenham Hotspur, but one can argue that the North London club are also not in a position to attract the best of the best at the moment.
