Danny Mills backs Spurs star for rare PL start against Liverpool

Mauricio Pochettino made several changes for the Champions League fixture against Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday and the players who came into the team repaid the manager’s faith with fantastic displays.

Ben Davies was one of those who was given an opportunity to shine on Tuesday and the full back produced a typically industrious and competent display.

On the back of his performance against the Serbian club, former Leeds United defender Danny Mills has backed the Welshman to retain his place in the side for the trip to Anfield this afternoon.

When asked if he expects Davies to star, Mills told Football Insider, ” think so. I think they’re obviously blessed with two outstanding left-backs.

“They can pick and choose, they always swapped in the past as they did on the right side when it was Trippier and Walker when they both at the football club which wasn’t that long ago.

“There’s not an awful lot to pick between them and he’ll probably go with whoever he feels is in the best form at the moment.”

Davies, who has been an important member of Pochettino’s squad over the past several years, missed the start of the season due to injury, which meant that Danny Rose had to play almost every game.

However, the 26-year-old now looks match fit and ready to challenge the England defender for his place in the team.

Spurs Web Opinion

Ben Davies is one of the most underappreciated players at the club as he hardly gets the credit he deserves.

There might be nothing flashy about the 26-year-old but he is extremely reliable and consistent. I also believe he is one of our best defenders in one vs one situations. However, I expect Pochettino to start with Rose against Liverpool as he likes to rotate at full back.
