Danny Mills suggests Mourinho and Levy could be in disagreement over player

Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills has suggested that Jose Mourinho might want to keep hold of Eriksen until the end of the season rather than allowing him to leave this month.

Eriksen, who is into the final year of his contract with Spurs, has been heavily linked with a move to Inter Milan for the past few weeks (The Sun) but Jose Mourinho has insisted that the deal isn’t close and that the midfielder remains as a part of his plans (Football.London).

The Danish international came on a second half substitute and helped Spurs secure a 2-1 win over Norwich on Wednesday.

Mills has suggested the reason why the Dane’s move to Inter has yet to materialise is potentially because Mourinho may prefer him to remain in North London and help the side push for Champions League qualification.

He claimed that the Spurs head coach could be in disagreement with Daniel Levy over the transfer as the Tottenham chairman would prefer to sell the 27-year-old now rather than lose him on a free transfer in the summer.

Mills told Football Insider, “We know what Levy is like, he’ll drag it [Eriksen’s proposed transfer to Inter] out to the bitter end.

“And there also may be part of it where Mourinho might be thinking we could still use this player, he could provide something for us.

“Whether that is helping us get into the Champions League…as how much money could they recoup if he scores two or three goals and gets assists to get them into the Champions League? That could be massive.

“£11million would be irrelevant if Mourinho wants him around, there’s every chance he could be saying to Eriksen, look, stay, stay until the end of the season.

“Sign your pre-contract, go on a free in the summer and probably, that extra £11million will be yours to do what you want with.

“So this could be a little bit of a debate, over what Levy wants and how long he is prepared to wait to get the maximum money for the club as opposed to what Mourinho wants and what he is saying to the player.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I am sure Mourinho wouldn’t mind keeping Eriksen until the end of the season as he is still a valuable option to have in the squad. However, I don’t think he will be much of a miss for us at all as his form has been poor for at least a year or so. The Dane looks like he needs a fresh start.
