Danny Mills suggests Spurs may want to get rid of star following rumoured asking price

Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur must be desperate to get rid of Dele Alli.

Football Insider claim that the North Londoners are ready to part company with the England international this summer for £25million unless he impresses in the remaining part of the campaign.

Dele’s career has stalled under Jose Mourinho after the 24-year-old has only made two Premier League starts all season with his chances of making it into Gareth Southgate’s squad for this summer’s Euros looking to be a forgone conclusion (transfermarkt).

The midfielder had been heavily linked with a potential reunion with Mauricio Pochettino at Paris Saint-Germain in January, only for chairman Daniel Levy to put a block on the prospect of a loan switch (talkSPORT).

Mills believes that if Spurs set the asking price at £25million, it sends the message that he is not wanted at the club and will certainly not be short of potential suitors.

He told Football Insider: “That doesn’t seem like a particularly high fee.

“It’s a reasonable fee and he’ll have a lot of suitors.

“£25million is not a lot, that says ‘We want him out.’ That’s the way I look at it.

“There comes a point where, if you’re not wanted somewhere, as much as you want to stay… You can sit it out and not play football but it’s tough to do that. It’s tough not to play football.

“He’s had a couple of seasons of not playing a lot of football, to have another two or three is difficult, it’s really difficult.

“Maybe him, his agent and the club have all got together and said ‘Come on, let’s be realistic about it. You get a decent fee and get him off the wage bill.’ And you go from there.”
