Danny Mills tips Mauricio Pochettino to recall 27-year-old against Newcastle

Tottenham go into their game against Newcastle United in North London on Sunday as heavy favourites.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men were perhaps lucky to come away with a point from their encounter against Manchester City last week but the lilywhites will be expected to be the side who will control the game.

The Magpies have lost both of their opening two games after replacing Rafa Benitez with Steve Bruce in the summer, a decision that didn’t go down well with the Newcastle faithful.

One added boost for Tottenham coming into the game is the return of Heung-min Son. The South Korean is now once again available for selection having now full served his three-match ban after picking up a red card against Bournemouth in the penultimate game of last season.

Former England defender Danny Mills expects Son to go straight back into Pochettino’s starting eleven.

When asked if he expected the forward to start, Mills told Football Insider: “I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t, he adds so much to that team; work rate, discipline, height as well.

“Often people don’t realise he’s quite a tall player and he can add an awful lot to that at times. That’s another big bonus to have when he’s playing.”

While Pochettino has opted to go with a diamond in both games so far, I believe he could try a 4-3-3 against Newcastle United with both Son Heung-Min and Lucas Moura supporting Harry Kane. Newcastle will sit deep and so it is important Spurs stretch the game and Son will help the team do just that.
