Danny Murphy claims Spurs man ‘looks physically inept’

Danny Murphy has claimed that Gareth Bale looks a long way off from being fully fit and that the Welshman does not seem to trust his own body.

Bale showed some glimpses of his old self in Tottenham’s 4-1 win over Wycombe on Monday when he looked hungry in front of goal and was willing to take on the opposition.

The 31-year-old, who opened Tottenham’s scoring at Adams Park on Monday, might have been hoping to play a bigger part than he ended up doing against Liverpool, with Jose Mourinho only introducing him with less than ten minutes of normal time left on the clock despite Spurs being two goals down at the time.

The Tottenham boss has said that he does not see Bale as a replacement for the injured Harry Kane since the Welshman is not comfortable playing as a number nine or number ten.

However, Mourinho did admit that it will be a plus if the winger can step up his performances in the England captain’s absence.

However, Murphy has said that he does not expect the experienced wide man to be handed a start as he still looks a long way off the required level physically.

The pundit told Optus Sport: “Bale looks physically inept for some reason.

“I don’t know, maybe there’s a fear factor because of the injuries he’s had, but at the moment he’s way off.

“He’s not close enough to be playing in the team regularly obviously.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I am optimistic after Bale’s performance against Wycombe that the winger can contribute a lot more for the rest of the season than he has done so far. I expect him to start alongside Son and Bergwijn at the Amex tomorrow as Mourinho does not seem to have a lot of faith in Vinicius.
