Danny Murphy surprised Pochettino isn’t using this midfielder more

There may only be a matter of days left in the summer transfer window, but Spurs could well see some last-minute business go through.

The Daily Mail report that Victor Wanyama is expected to complete his move to Club Brugge before the window slams shut on September 2.

This comes after injury problems have seen Wanyama slip down the pecking order at Spurs over the past season.

Pochettino now has the likes of Moussa Sissoko, Harry Winks, Tanguy Ndombele, Eric Dier, Oliver Skipp, Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, and Giovani Lo Celso who can all play in holding midfield.

However, Danny Murphy is surprised that Pochettino has not been using Wanyama at the start of this season, especially considering that Spurs have been struggling.

He thinks that Wanyama’s ability to come in and get a foot on the ball could be valuable, especially considering the partnership he forged with Dembele a couple of seasons back.

Murphy said (TalkSPORT 26/08/2019 – 10:10 am): “Good signing [for Brugge if he moves], I like him. He’s a very, very good player. They are struggling a bit, aren’t they? I say struggling, it’s been an average start.

“He is exactly what you need when you are struggling. Someone who can come in and put his foot in. He can play aswell and he can get the odd goal.

“I’m surprised Tottenham didn’t use him more because a couple of years ago, him and Dembele had a partnership in the centre of midfield, which was absolutely phenomenal. It really was. He had a couple of injuries, so maybe he’s just struggled to come back the same. But good luck to him.”
