Danny Rose weighs in on whether Pochettino should replace Conte at Spurs

Danny Rose has said that while he would love to see Mauricio Pochettino back at Tottenham, he would also be happy to see Antonio Conte stay at the club as he believes the Italian can deliver success in N17.

The speculation over Conte’s future is unlikely to dissipate anytime soon since the Italian’s current deal at the North London club runs out in the summer (Transfermarkt).

If Conte does depart, it has been suggested that Tottenham could rehire Pochettino (Daily Mail), who has been out of work since parting ways with Paris Saint-Germain last summer.

Rose stated that he would be tempted to do everything possible to bring Pochettino back to Spurs but added that his former club already have a top manager in place at the moment.

The 32-year-old told Joe’s YouTube channel: “For me as an outsider looking in Conte being a manager of your football club on paper that’s amazing.

“For me, I would love him to stay but I’m not privy to what is going on with Spurs at the moment on the first-team side.

“But for me as an outsider looking in, I’d be over the moon if Conte could stay as Tottenham manager. But if Mauricio Pochettino could be tempted to come back then I’d be saying do everything you can to get him back.

“You sort of see and hear things that Conte says about being able to compete with the bigger teams, which is right, you have to spend quite a bit of money and out of the bigger teams Tottenham might not do that as much as the others, so you have to understand his frustrations.

“But I still believe he’s an unbelievable manager but if there’s anybody who can deliver success for Tottenham without spending as much as everyone else, it’s Conte.

“So for me, I’d be over the moon if he stayed and if he was to move on I’d be over the moon if Spurs went and got Mauricio again.”

Spurs Web Opinion

One can understand why Danny has given a diplomatic answer but I suspect that if you asked him privately, he would encourage Spurs to bring Pochettino back rather than sticking with Conte.

While I want Conte to be successful at Tottenham and appreciate the hard work he has put in at the club, the reality is that the project does not seem to be moving in the right direction.

It might be in the interest of all parties to go their separate ways and I do not see a better fit for Spurs at present than Pochettino.

Hiring the Argentine would have the extra benefit of potentially giving a lifeline to the Spurs careers of Ndombele and Lo Celso, who were his signings while also bringing the best of the attacking talent at the club, who appear to be stifled by our current approach.
