Tottenham Hotspur won’t often get praise from Arsenal legend Paul Merson, but the footballer-turned-pundit has made a positive prediction for the Lilywhites ahead of the start of the new Premier League season.
A comfortable win on the cards for Spurs
Ange Postecoglou‘s men start their campaign with a trip to Leicester City on Monday night, with the newly-promoted side hoping to get some points on the board early doors.
However, after recruiting well this summer, and with Postecoglou’s methods now well-established in the Spurs squad, many predict a strong season for the North London club.
Merson certainly does, and he told Sportskeeda they should get off to a winning start on Monday.
Asked about the upcoming game, Merson said: “Tottenham are dark horses for the top four in the Premier League this season.
“They’ve bought really well in the transfer market, and Dominic Solanke is a great signing. He’s got plenty of pace to burn and he’ll make his runs. That will help James Maddison, too.
“Leicester have lost their manager this summer and have their work cut out for them this season. I’m going to go with Tottenham to win this game.
Prediction: Leicester 0-3 Tottenham Hotspur.
Top four for Spurs?
Merson is not alone in thinking Tottenham can have a good season, either. Spurs legend Jermain Defoe has backed his former club for a top-four finish, too (Sky Sports).
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher also has Tottenham down for a place in the top four this year, with only Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City pegged to finish above them.
