Darren Bent claims Erik Lamela should be dropped after goal and assist against City

Tottenham Hotspur didn’t have too many standout players against Man City last weekend in what was essentially a pretty poor performance.

However, Erik Lamela has to be worth a special mention after the Argentine recorded a goal and an assist in the 2-2 draw.

After Spurs went 1-0 down to a Sterling header in the first half, it did feel as if the game could quickly get away from them.

However, just four minutes after conceding, Lamela drove at the Man City defence and wrong-footed Ederson in goal to find the back of the net.

After Tottenham had gone a goal down yet again, Lamela then produced the pin-point whipped corner that Lucas Moura happily headed home.

Despite being involved in Tottenham’s best two moments of the match, Darren Bent believes that Son will go straight back into the starting XI to replace the Argentine.

Son has become one of Tottenham’s biggest goal threats in recent seasons, especially in the Champions League run last year.

Bent said (Football Insider): “Listen, he’s (Lamela) done well, he’s scored a good goal and contributed to them getting a point but you’d like to think now Heung-min Son’s back from suspension, he goes straight back in.

“He’s one player Spurs do miss, you saw in the Champions League last season against Manchester City, he does it in these big games. The moment he comes back, I’m sure he’s ready to go, he goes straight back into that team.”
