Darren Bent claims match was ‘crying out’ for this Tottenham star to come off the bench

Tottenham Hotspur fans have been given a break this weekend after seeing their side lose back-to-back matches against Bayern Munich and Brighton, conceding ten in the process.

Instead, fans have been able to tune in on the international fixtures, with a number of Spurs players on show over the week.

Harry Kane and Danny Rose lined up for England on Friday night, but it was a tough watch for any Three Lions fans as the team succumbed to their first loss in the qualifying group.

In fact, it was England’s first dropped points at all in the group, as they had previously been one of the few countries to maintain a 100 percent record.

While England are still in a commanding position in the group, it was a frustrating watch for fans as the likes of Henderson and Rice in the centre of the park found it difficult to retain possession and kickstart attacks.

Ex-Spurs man, Darren Bent, thinks the game was crying out for Harry Winks (Football Insider): “I think that game was crying out for Harry Winks.

“I think Harry Winks would have been perfect, ideal for that role – getting on that ball, forward passes, he’s got a good range of passing so for me, I would have sacrificed someone.

“At half-time I’d have put Marcus Rashford on, he’d have been one, and Harry Winks, that would have been my two. It was very slow, England weren’t moving the ball quick enough.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I could not agree more. Winks deserves and needs some regular big-game international football under his belt and that match was perfect for him.

  1. Did you watch winks against BM? He made more passes to BM players that anyone else. He lost his composure and they hunted him down. Having sissy alongside you ain’t great and puts tooo much emphasis on winks but his confidence ws shot. Against Brighton when he came on he had 15 good minutes. To play him in the England game could have been very dangerous.
