Darren Bent claims Spurs move would be perfect for Chelsea player

Tottenham are currently short on experienced strikers with Harry Kane being the only out and out recognised centre forward after both Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen left in the summer.

17-year-old Troy Parrott, who has high expectations on his shoulders, has only made one appearance for Mauricio Pochettino’s first team this season.

Former striker Darren Bent has made a rather controversial suggestion by claiming that Tottenham should scoop up former Arsenal striker Oliver Giroud.

The Frenchman has found playing time hard to come by at Chelsea and Bent claimed that if a move to Everton doesn’t materialise for the 33-year-old, then Spurs would be a perfect destination for him.

Speaking to talkSPORT’s Drive show from 16:00 (as relayed by HITC), Bent said, “The most ideal situation would be Everton. I think they should go for him, because they need that.”

“But, kind of an off-the-track one would be maybe Spurs, because they’ve only got one recognised centre-forward, which is Harry Kane. Now if he was to get injured – we’ve seen them put Lucas Moura up there who is not a centre-forward.

“There is that whole Arsenal aspect. But as a back up to Harry Kane, I think that would be perfect for him.”

The experienced striker has continued to play regularly for France despite not being able to get minutes at club level.

The fact that he has played for both Arsenal and Chelsea makes this a complete non sequitur. Giroud at 33 is coming to the end of his career and a move to a mid-table side or back to Ligue 1 would probably be best for him. Spurs need to try and sign a young and hungry striker who can learn from Harry Kane.
