Darren Bent insists this Spurs man is ‘too talented’ not to be playing matches

Former Tottenham striker, Darren Bent believes Dele Alli is at a point where he has to make a decision about his future as the midfielder is too talented not to be starting games.

From being considered one of the brightest talents in English football to now finding himself regularly missing out on matchday squads, Alli has had a dramatic fall from grace over the last year.

The 24-year-old was handed a rare start by Jose Mourinho against Royal Antwerp in midweek but was withdrawn at half time after a lackluster first-half performance.

The Spurs boss seemed to hint in his post-match press conference that a number of his players were not playing well enough to start games.

Even though he did not mention Alli’s name specifically, Mourinho told journalists to stop asking him why he does not pick certain players, as they now had the answer (Football.London).

On the back of those comments, some Spurs fans fear that the midfielder may have already played his last game in a Tottenham shirt.

When asked about Alli’s situation at Spurs, Bent told Football Insider: “I know what it’s like, he’s lost confidence and he thinks he’s got a manager who doesn’t believe in him anymore.

“All he can try and do is do the things he does well. Unfortunately, on Thursday there were times when he was giving the ball away.

“He just hasn’t got the same type of swagger that he once had when he walked onto the pitch.

“It was the 2016/17 season where he scored over 20 goals then backed it up with another 14 the next season.

“We haven’t seen that type of Dele Alli consistently for a couple of years now. It’s now what do you do? He’s too good of a player, too talented, to not play.”
