Darren Bent says former Spurs teammate had the ‘best first touch’ he has ever seen

Darren Bent has revealed that former Tottenham Hotspur striker Dimitar Berbatov had the ‘best first touch’ he had ever seen.

Berbatov is one of the most naturally talented footballers to play for Spurs. He pulled on the Lilywhite shirt 102 times for the North London club, scoring 46 goals and providing 29 assists across all competitions (Transfermarkt).

Former Tottenham Hotspur captain Younes Kaboul had high praise for his old teammate recently, naming him the ‘best Spurs player of the modern era’ when speaking on the Official Tottenham Hotspur Podcast.

Spurs signed the Bulgaria international in the summer of 2006 from Bayer Leverkusen for £10.9 million and spent two successful years at the North London side, during which time he formed a great relationship with Robbie Keane.

The Bulgarian was a part of the last Spurs team that won the EFL Cup in 2008, playing alongside the likes of Jonathan Woodgate, Aaron Lennon, Jermaine Jenas, Ledley King and more.

Dimitar Berbatov had the ‘best first touch’ ever

Speaking on Filthy Fellas, Darren Bent was full of praise for his former Tottenham teammate Berbatov and claimed he had ‘the best first touch’ he had ever seen.

He said: “Berbatov, I’d never seen a first-touch like it, you could give him the ball in any type of scenario and he wasn’t giving the ball away.”

The question was then put to Bent: “Let me ask you this, who was better technically, Berbatov or Tom Huddlestone because you played with Huddlestone as well?”

Darren replied: “Passing, it’s Tom, Huddlestone’s passing, but first touch it’s Berba, the best first touch I’d seen in my life.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Harry Kane arguably has the title as the ‘best striker’ Tottenham Hotspur has ever had. However, legends like Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov can never be forgotten. It is telling that we haven’t won a trophy ever since Keane and Berbatov have left the club.
