Darren Bent tips Spurs to become frontrunners for Aston Villa player

Darren Bent has tipped Tottenham Hotspur to emerge as favourites to sign Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish this summer.

The 24-year-old, who first broke into Villa’s first-team in 2012, has emerged as a target for some of England’s biggest clubs over the past two years.

He was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham in the summer of 2018 only for a £25milllion offer to be snubbed by Villa’s new owners which left the midfielder admitting he was disappointed that the transfer failed to materialise (The Telegraph).

Grealish was recently in the headlines for the wrong reasons when he crashed his £80,000 car after being out at an all-night party which came just hours after he urged everyone to stay at home amid the coronavirus pandemic (The Sun).

Bent believes that Villa will be holding out for around £50million if they are to allow him to leave the Midlands club and has suggested that the North Londoners could steal a march on the likes of Manchester United by landing the Birmingham-born product.

He told Football Insider: “It’s definitely in the price tag that Villa are going to want for him but you look at Spurs – a young, English, brilliant signing.

“When you look at teams that are also in for Jack, there’s a lot of talk about Manchester United and I think where Spurs might have the edge is they’re going to have the funds to do it.

“They’re not really linked with anybody else and I think they can get that done, relatively, quite comfortably. I’m hearing Manchester United linked with Jadon Sancho, Harry Kane, Grealish. For them to get all those players they’re going to have to spend upwards of £300million.

“I can see Spurs being the frontrunners and just getting him.”
