Darren Bent urges club not to sell ‘unstoppable’ player to Tottenham

Darren Bent has urged Wolves to do everything in their power to ensure that Adama Traore does not join Tottenham before this evening’s transfer deadline.

Tottenham look to have secured the signing of Barcelona’s Emerson Royal today, with only the official announcement now pending.

While it was alleged earlier today that the club were also looking to complete a late move for Traore, the speculation seems to have gone quiet over the last few hours.

The 24-year-old is alleged to have even hired Jorge Mendes to help facilitate his move to Spurs but according to the likes of Alasdair Gold and Jack Pitt-Brooke, Wolves remain resolute in their desire to hold on to him.

Bent believes that despite the question marks over Traore’s end product, Bruno Lage’s side should do everything in their power to keep the winger at Molineux after the way he has started the campaign.

When asked about Spurs’ late move for the Spaniard, the former Tottenham striker told talkSPORT Breakfast (31/08/21 at 8:50 am): “If I am Wolves then I have to keep hold of him.

“I know his finishing and his final product, at the start of the season, hasn’t been great.

“But his performances have been really good. He has looked unstoppable, so I would do everything to keep hold of him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The one thing that has been completely ignored in the whole ‘is Traore good enough for Spurs’ debate by fans on both sides of the debate, is the possibility of Traore actually having improved this season.

Fans who simply point to his lack of assists and goals over the last few years do not seem to realise that going by the evidence of the first three games, Adama has become a lot more intelligent in the way he uses his attributes.

He has consequently become an even better ball carrier, currently having the highest number of successful dribbles in the whole of Europe so far this season. So, I would have certainly liked us to sign him.

However, it seems fairly evident now that the deal for the 24-year-old is not going to go through barring a substantial offer from Tottenham in the final few hours of the transfer window.
