Darren Bent urges player to show faith in current club amid rumoured Spurs interest

Darren Bent has urged rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Ryan Fraser to commit his short-term future to Bournemouth and worry about a transfer later in the summer.

Fraser’s current deal with Bournemouth runs out next month and the winger is said to be on Tottenham’s radar (Football Insider). There hve also been reports claiming that the 26-year-old is on the verge of agreeing on a move to unnamed club.

The Premier League ruled last Monday that that players in Fraser’s situation who will become free agents on June 30, will be allowed to extend their current deal until the end of the campaign provided both the club and the player are in agreement (Football.London).

Bent has insisted that the 26-year-old should stay at the Cherries until the end of the season and that he will still get the move to Tottenham if the Lilywhites really want him.

Speaking to Football Insider, the former Spurs striker said: “If he (Fraser) can go and show faith to Bournemouth then I’m all for that but again it’s another difficult one – it works on two ends of the spectrum.

“For me, I’d sign the deal at Bournemouth because I’m always a believer that if a top club wants to get you out of somewhere then they’ll get you out. If a top club really wants you they’ll just come and get you, regardless of if your contract is up or not.

“If Spurs truly want to go and get Ryan Fraser, they’ll go and get him no matter what. We’ve seen guys leave places still have four, five years left on their contracts.”

The big question mark with Fraser as well as with other players whose deals run out next month will be whether they will want to risk injury by playing until the end of the season. Fraser will know that he can kiss his chances of landing a lucrative deal at a big club goodbye if he goes down with a long-term injury when the season resumes.
