David Beckham gives seven-word review of Harry Kane World Cup displays

Former England captain David Beckham lavished praise on Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane via his Instagram story after the Three Lions’ win against Senegal at the World Cup.

England have been impressive on their route to the quarter-finals of the tournament in Qatar. After topping their group with two wins and a draw, England went on to dismantle Senegal in the last-16 tie and ran out comfortable 3-0 winners on Sunday evening.

Goals from Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane, and Bukayo Saka sealed the victory and set up a quarter-final meeting with France.

While that goal may have been Kane’s first of the tournament, he also has three assists to his name so far and the 29-year-old has been instrumental in the accomplished all-round play Gareth Southgate’s team have exhibited.

Kane now has 52 goals in 79 caps at international level (Transfermarkt) and it is hoped he can now push on and find more goals as England look to progress through the tournament.

If Kane can score one more goal for his country, he will go level with Wayne Rooney as England’s all-time leading goalscorer (Goal).

Clearly, Kane’s game is more than just scoring goals, and the way he has led the England side through this tournament, and indeed in the 2018 World Cup and Euro 2020, has been a joy to watch.

His latest display did enough to impress David Beckham, it seems, who posted on his Instagram story after the Senegal game.

Beckham had just a few words on the matter, but he said: “Captain’s performance with and without the goal.”

Spurs Web Opinion

We know Harry Kane is not necessarily the kind of captain who will scream and shout on the pitch, but what he does exceedingly well is lead by example. That performance against Senegal may not seem particularly remarkable, but Kane’s impact is pivotal to everything England do right, and hopefully he can produce more of the same on Saturday.
