Davies praise for rookie teammate

Ben Davies has been full of praise for Davinson Sanchez’s performances in his first season at Spurs.

The young Colombian international looked at home straight away featuring in 31 League matches in 2017-18, starting 29 and was the only player to start all eight games in the Champions League.

Davinson fitted in seamlessly in his new surroundings as we finished third in the Premier League and qualified again for the Champions League next season and Davies was impressed with how quickly Davinson settled in at the centre of our defence.

Speaking to the club website Davies said:”Davinson has been different class and it’s easy to forget how young he is with the way he’s played,”; said the Welsh full-back, now preparing for an international against Mexico in Los Angeles in the early hours of Tuesday. He’s made it look easy in his first season in the Premier League.

He added: “People talk about how defenders need to be unbelievable ball players but as a defender you are there to stop the goals and defend the team, that’s the priority. There’s no messing around with Davinson. He makes his tackles, wins his headers and tries to keep a clean sheet. That’s what a defender should want”

He went on to say:”We’ve had to scrap, we’ve had to defend and as a defender, those are the games you love, when you’ve put your body on the line, you are winning headers, making blocks, that’s the bread and butter. Davinson has showed everyone how important it is to defend. He’s a pleasure to play alongside and he and Jan have complemented each other so well, driving each other on. As a defensive unit, I think we’ve done well again.”
