Davinson Sanchez’s stats against Cardiff could be a worry for Pochettino

Tottenham Hotspur got their new year off to the perfect start yesterday with a comfortable 3-0 win against struggling Cardiff.

Spurs took the lead within the first few minutes after Harry Kane bundled the ball home from a Trippier cross.

Christian Eriksen added a second not longer after, shifting the ball out of his feet on the edge of the box before disguising a cheeky finish in at the near post.

At the 20 minutes mark, it was three. Heung Min Son received a Kane pass in the box, before twisting and finishing from a tight angle.

Tottenham then saw the game out at a canter, conserving energy for the congested period ahead.

However, one man’s stats may have raised a few eyebrows in the Tottenham camp, as Davinson Sanchez made his second appearance back in the side after returning from injury.

The Colombian failed to make a single tackle or interception for the entire 90 minutes.

Perhaps this was down to Cardiff’s lack of attacking flair, but it wasn’t the most comfortable game for the defender.

Hopefully Sanchez just needs some time to bed back into the team, although Jan Vertonghen can’t be far away from a return of his own.
