Dawson on call after Ferdinand injury

Michael Dawson is on call for an England call-up following an injury to Rio Ferdinand.

The England captain suffered a knee injury during England’s first training session in South Africa and must undergo a scan.

Capello confirmed: “The bad news is in the last moment of the training, Rio suffered a problem with the knee.

“He has just gone to hospital for a scan. We hope it will not be so bad an injury but we have Michael Dawson on call.

“It came from a minor tackle during the training. How bad is it? We will have to wait and see.”

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. Shouldn't have left Daws behind in the first place. Carragher has the agility and acceleration of a canal boat and Ferdinand has played fewer games than King (about half I think). Milner could have made a better job covering RB since he has a bit of pace and Parker could have had the spare slot in MF. Carragher has been dreadful this season and his famous last ditch tackles are usually because he f*****d up in the first place.

  2. To me a blessing if Rio doesn't make it as he has not been at his best whereas Daws has been a rock at the back for us this season.

  3. Maybe if they call him, he should behave like Carragher and quit international football in a huff. It seems to be the way that you guarantee a place.
