Dawson to miss the start of Tottenham’s Champions League campaign

Michael Dawson will be out of action for around six to eight weeks in a massive injury blow to Tottenham Hotspur.

The defender was stretchered off in England’s 4-0 win against Bulgaria on Friday night after his leg collapsed beneath him.

Scans have revealed that Daws has sprained left knee ligaments and a left ankle ligament.

The injury means that Dawson will miss the start of Tottenham’s Champions League campaign, so we could be set to see a lot of William Gallas and Sebastien Bassong in action – when Ledley’s knee isn’t right.

A statement on Spurs’ official website read: “Scans today have revealed that Michael Dawson has sprained his left medial knee ligament and one of his left ankle ligaments.

“The defender has been withdrawn from the England squad after suffering the injuries during last night’s 4-0 European Championship qualifying win against Bulgaria at Wembley and is expected to be out of action for six to eight weeks.”
