‘Days are numbered’ – Journalist ‘can’t see any way back’ for player at Spurs

Pete O’Rourke has claimed Tanguy Ndombele’s days at Tottenham are ‘numbered’ and he cannot see how he will return to the club at the end of the season.

After struggling to break into the Spurs fold under Antonio Conte, Ndombele rejoined former side Lyon on loan for the rest of the season in the January transfer window.

The deal, which saw the French side pay a £1.2 million fee, also has an incorporated option to make the move permanent for a reported £54 million this summer (Sky Sports).

However, the Evening Standard recently reported a return to Spurs is still the expected outcome with Lyon currently having no plans to exercise the clause in his contract.

But despite that, O’Rourke believes Ndombele’s career in North London has already come to an end and does not expect him to be at the club for the start of the new campaign.

He told GiveMeSport: “I can’t see any way back for him at Tottenham, even though he’s still the club’s record signing. It just didn’t work out for him. I think his days at Tottenham are numbered.”

Ndombele joined Tottenham for a club-record £53.8 million in 2019 (BBC Sport) when Mauricio Pochettino was manning the dugout. He has gone on to register over 90 appearances for the club scoring 10 goals in a heavily disrupted stint (Transfermarkt).

Tottenham will have some work to do to offload Ndombele this summer if Conte does not intend on including him in his plans.

It is a shame considering how talented he is and sometimes a player just doesn’t suit a particular club, but the problem is trying to recoup somewhere close to what they shelled out for him.
