Defender admits he ‘can’t say no’ if Spurs make an approach

Atalanta right-back Timothy Castagne has admitted that he will not be able to reject a move to Tottenham Hotspur if the North Londoners made a concrete offer for him.

Right-back is one of the areas Jose Mourinho which is reportedly keen on strengthening when the transfer market opens in the summer (Express).

Rumoured Spurs target Thomas Meunier completed a move to Borussia Dortmund last week, with reports indicating that Daniel Levy was not particularly keen on signing the Belgian despite Mourinho’s desire to bring him to Spurs (L’Equipe via Sport Witness) .

Previous reports have indicated that Levy would favour a move for Castagne instead (Het Nieuwsblad via Sport Witness).

On the back of an impressive couple of seasons that the 24-year-old has enjoyed in Italian football, Spurs are said to be ‘strongly interested’ in signing him (Le10Sport).

With versatile defender having informed Atalanta that he will not be signing a contract extension, the Serie A club are reportedly looking to cash in on him this summer (Corriere Della Sera).

Castagne has now admitted in an interview with La Derniere Heure in Belgium (as relayed by TEAMtalk) that he is ready for a new challenge.

The defender is quoted as saying: “I think the time has come to move on, but I won’t be disappointed if I stay in Bergamo.

“I’m very proud of this. It’s proof that hard work pays off. I hope it’s more than just simple interest from them.”

Despite admitting to growing up supporting Spurs’ North London rivals Arsenal, Castagne admitted that he would not be able to turn down a move to the Lilywhites.

He added: “I was especially a fan when Thierry Henry played for them. Now I’m not so much.

“You have to be honest with yourself. When a team like PSG or Tottenham come knocking on your door, you can’t say ‘no’.”

If we can get him for around £15million, I believe this could potentially be a very good deal for us. He is versatile and hardly makes a mistake defensively. He will be a different sort of option than Aurier for Jose to have if he wants to switch it up for some games.
