Defender insists Spurs are ‘raring to go’ ahead of Man United clash

Ben Davies has returned to action from on Friday against Norwich and has insisted that Spurs are ‘raring to go’ when they return to Premier League action on Friday.

Spurs get their season back underway this week when Manchester United make the trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

“It was really nice to back,” Davies told the official Spurs website.

“It’s something we’re going to have to get used to, playing in an empty stadium, and making sure we’re up and at it like we would be if we were walking out here on a ‘normal’ matchday.”

Davies had only been back in the squad for around a month following his return from injury before the Premier League was postponed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I thought we did that against Norwich. I thought we controlled the majority of the game. They had possession but we kept them to half-chances. Overall, a decent performance and we’re feeling ready as a squad to get back at it next week.

“We’ve been training hard now for the last three, four weeks, so everyone is raring to go again. The players look fit and ready to go. We can’t wait to get started again,” he added.

Harry Kane, Heung-min Son, Steven Bergwijn and Moussa Sissoko have all returned to the squad following their respective injuries which had kept them sidelined before lockdown.

However, Manchester United have also had the opportunity to welcome back established players with Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford back fit.

Spurs currently sit in eighth spot, seven points off Chelsea who occupy the final Champions League place while United head to N17 in fifth place, just four points ahead of Spurs (PL).

It is encouraging to see the players are looking forward to the challenge ahead in trying to sneak into the top four. However, it was also good to hear Davies speak so positively on Friday’s friendly. Despite the 2-1 loss, Davies insisted he felt Spurs were the better side but conceded two late goals with a very different XI on the field.
