Defender linked with Spurs reveals Manchester City desire

Ajax’s Edson Alvarez, who has previously been linked with a move to Tottenham has admitted that Manchester City would be his dream destination.

Dutch publication De Telegraaf reported early last month that Spurs made an offer for Alvarez during the January transfer window but were knocked back by Ajax.

The Mexican international is versatile having featured at centre-back, right-back as well as in defensive midfield, and could prove a useful squad option to have.

The 22-year-old has surprisingly not been a regular fixture in Erik Ten Haag’s side this season, having started just six of their 26 Eredivise matches this season (transfermarkt).

Former Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has admitted to being a fan of the Ajax player (van der Vaart said.).

The young defender has now revealed that he supported Manchester City as a kid and that moving to Pep Guardiola’s side would be a dream come true for him.

Alvarez told Ajax’s official Twitter account during a Q&A session: “I would really like to play for Manchester City one day.

“I have been following that club since childhood and I think it is a really nice club, I am a fan. So if I had to choose I would like to play for City.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While Mourinho will likely find Alvarez’s tactical discipline and versatility appealing, it is a worry that he has not been able to keep his place in the Ajax side. He still has a lot to prove in European football and for that reason, it would be a risky signing for us to make.
