Defender pays tribute to Spurs and staff on Instagram after leaving the club

Luis Binks has posted a heartfelt message on social media after leaving Tottenham Hotspur to join Major League Soccer side Montreal Impact.

The centre-back had been training with the Canadian side in recent weeks (Football.London) before the move was officially confirmed earlier this week (MLS Soccer).

The Daily Mail reported earlier this month that Jose Mourinho tried and failed to persuade the youngster to stay at Tottenham.

It was claimed that the 18-year-old was highly-regarded at the club and that many in Spurs’ academy staff predicted that Binks would be the next youngster to break into the first team.

However, he is said to have grown frustrated at the lack of opportunities and failed to see a path to the first team having watched Japhet Tanganga become a regular over the past month.

After sealing his move to Montreal, Binks, who has been a part of the Tottenham Hotspur academy since the age of six, took to Instagram to post the following message:

Spurs Web Opinion

It is worrying how many young players we have let slip through in recent years. It suggests that youngsters don’t quite see a direct pathway to the first team at the club. However, we are hardly the only big club who are currently encountering this problem – Jadon Sancho’s departure from Manchester City being a prime example. Let’s hope that the likes of Parrott and Skipp don’t get tempted to leave in search of opportunities.
