Defender returns to Spurs despite being on international duty – will not play on Tuesday

Tottenham Hotspur central defender Ben Davies has cut short his international duty with Wales to return to Tottenham Hotspur.

The 28-year-old played the full 90 minutes of Wales’ World Cup play-off semi-final victory against Austria on Thursday night.

The defender was named in the defensive backline along with fellow Spurs player Joe Rodon and his side were 2-0 ahead thanks to a brace from Gareth Bale when Austria were given a glimmer of hope when Marcel Sabitzer’s shot deflected in off an outstretched leg from Davies.

Wales will round off their international schedule when they face Czech Republic on Tuesday evening.

Wales have confirmed that Davies has returned to Tottenham but did not clarify whether he was injured or had come down with an illness.

Hopefully, Davies’ return to Hotspur Way is nothing more than a precaution and he is fit and available for selection for the visit of Newcastle United on April 3rd.
