Tottenham and USA star Cameron Carter-Vickers has joined Swansea City on loan until the end of the season, subject to international clearance.

With Toby Alderweireld staying put for the time being, it looked as if only one of Carter-Vickers and Foyth would be needed for the year, with Pochettino going for the latter.

Carter-Vickers impressed on loan to Ipswich Town and Sheffield United last season, and will be relishing another Championship challenge to further his career.

The young defender had this to say: “I am super excited. Swansea is a massive club and I can’t wait to get out training with the boys.

“When I spoke to the manager he told me how they wanted to play. I have watched them play a few times this season and you can see they play good football. I am looking forward to being part of that.”

Carter-Vickers put pen to paper on a new Tottenham three-year deal this summer, and will be hoping that another impressive stint in the Championship could springboard his Premier League hopes.

“I really enjoyed last season on loan in the Championship. It is a tough league and you have to be focused to pick up points. Last season was good experience for me.

“It is still early this season but it has been a good start for Swansea and it is all about trying to get more points on the board now. Then we’ll see what we can achieve later in the season.

“I went to Sheffield United first and enjoyed my time there. They welcomed me in and played good football, so it was an experience I enjoyed.

“Ipswich was also a good experience for me. The Championship is tough. You play Saturday and Tuesday most weeks so you have to be prepared physically and mentally if you are going to pick up points.

“It’s a physical league, but I don’t mind that. I like going up against strikers, having to battle and having to fight.”
