Defender’s agent responds when asked about alleged Spurs transfer interest

According to the print edition of Mundo Deportivo (as relayed by Sport Witness), Clement Lenglet’s agent has denied knowledge of Tottenham’s interest in his client.

Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici are thought to be prioritising signing a central defender in January, according to some sources.

Spanish journalist Gerard Romero claimed earlier this week that Lenglet is one of the names on Tottenham’s radar ahead of the transfer window.

The journalist asserted that Spurs had made an offer for the Barcelona defender during the summer but the 26-year-old was keen on going to England at the time. He also backed the North Londoners to try again for the French international in January.

On the back of that claim, Mundo Deportivo revealed they had reached out to Lenglet’s agent to ask him about the speculation.

The former Sevilla defender’s representative allegedly informed the publication that he had ‘not received news’ from Barcelona about Tottenham’s alleged interest in his client.

The report adds that Lenglet’s agent had also ‘closed the option’ of the centre-back leaving Camp Nou in January.

The speculation linking us with moves for the likes of Lenglet and De Ligt does make sense, given that we lack a natural left-centre-back in the squad apart from Ben Davies. That is a position I would expect the club to strengthen in January.
