Defoe aiming for century strike

Jermain Defoe is now looking for his 100th goal in a Spurs shirt and hopes it will come on Wednesday against AC Milan.

Defoe’s brace in the 3-3 draw with Wolves on Sunday took him up to 99 strikes in Spurs colours, as well as 99 Premier League goals in total.

The forward has had a frustrating season, with those goals being his first in the Premier League this year in a campaign blighted with injury and loss of form.

He will have the chance to pass one landmark on Wednesday though as Spurs host AC Milan in the Champions League, a tie that Spurs could only dream of when he first joined the club.

Defoe said, “If I score my 100th goal for Tottenham on Wednesday night there will be a reason why.

“I say that because I always believe things happen for a reason, but it would be nice to do it.

“It’s been a long while since I scored my last Premier League goal. More than anything it has been frustrating.

“As a forward, when you are scoring goals, you are full of confidence and buzzing about. When you are not scoring, your game changes, you start snatching at things or take an extra touch because you want to be so precise.

“But I’ve always tried to get into the right positions to score and I’ll never stop doing that and it was good to get the two at Wolves.”
