Defoe credits boot change for five-goal haul

Jermain Defoe has revealed that he changed his boots at the last minute before hitting five goals in the 9-1 rout of Wigan on Sunday.

Defoe was ordered to change his green boots by development coach Clive Allen and the former Spurs striker was justified in his actions as Defoe was in unstoppable form.

“I had a funny feeling before the game. Adidas gave me a pair of green boots and I tried them on before the game, but Clive Allen said I couldn’t wear them, so I changed them.

“They were pinkish silver ones in the end, and I go and score five”

Defoe also spoke of how captain Robbie Keane, dropped to the bench for the game, had told his team-mates that they needed to get another goal in order to kill Wigan off.

But even he wouldn’t have seen a further eight goals to fly past Chris Kirkland as Spurs recorded their biggest ever win in the Premiership.
