Defoe staying put

In light of recent speculation linking Defoe with a move away from White Hart Lane, AVB has been
quick to reassure the England international that he has a part to play at Spurs.

Newspaper speculation and gossip over recent weeks had suggested that a host of Premier League
clubs were interested in signing Defoe, including Aston Villa, Stoke and Sunderland. This gossip never
materialised into anything more concrete but this has not stopped AVB from reassuring Defoe that
he is in the new managers’ plans.

Speaking to SSN, AVB said: “He always has this killer instinct. He scored in midweek for his country,
scored for us during pre-season and again here”.

“He is showing that touch that we need up front… It is a different situation for him now. I have
nothing to do with anything that happened in the past. He is our striker, is playing extremely well, is
full of confidence and has been deadly in front of goal”.

AVB also suggested further that Tottenham are looking to sign another striker before the transfer
window closes in around 2 week’s time, saying “Jermain accepts that we are looking for one more
striker because the team is in need of that…”
