Defoe wants Champions League not Eastenders

Jermain Defoe has delayed a groin operation in order to play for Spurs this evening in the Champions League decider againsy Young Boys.

The England international is expected to be sidelined for a month when he goes under the knife on Tuesday and could possibly miss the fixtures against West Brom and Wolves.

Harry wanted JD to have the op on Thursday, but the German surgeon cannot schedule the procedure until Tuesday.

Defoe is hoping he can help fire the boys into the next round and is relishing the prospect of the top teams coming to the Lane.

“Everyone’s looking forward to it,” Defoe said. “We worked so hard to get here and we want to make the most of it and win the game, and get through to the group stage.”

“Everyone wants to play in the Champions League,” he added. “On Tuesday nights, you don’t want to be at home watching Eastenders.

“You want to be at the Lane at playing against the great players in the world and at the fantastic stadiums.

“For a lot of the boys, it’s the first time playing in the Champions League and it’s great, especially when you put the hard work in and you feel like you deserve to be there on that stage.”
