Dejan Kulusevski names the Tottenham defender he loves playing with

Tottenham Hostpur star Dejan Kulusevski has revealed the player he loves playing with, and it may surprise you to know it’s not Harry Kane or any of the more glamorous attackers at Spurs, but wing-back Matt Doherty.

Kulusevski arrived at Tottenham in the January transfer window earlier this year and has made quite the impact since. He instantly adapted to the English game and endeared himself to the fans, contributing five goals and eight assists in 18 games last season (Transfermarkt).

This campaign has been a little more frustrating for Kulusevski, as injury ruled him out for just over a month. He returned against Liverpool on Sunday evening, and immediately showed what we have been missing by providing the assist for Harry Kane’s goal.

That takes Kulusevski’s tally to one goal and four assists this season (Transfermarkt) and there should hopefully be plenty more to come.

Well, they say you play best when you’re having fun, so if Antonio Conte wants to get the best out of his Swedish attacker, he should consider playing him in front of Matt Doherty more often.

Speaking to Football.London, Kulusevski highlighted the Irishman as one of the main players he loves to play alongside.

He said: “It’s very easy to play with him. Also last year I played a lot with him and he’s a fantastic player, especially going forward. We have fun, we enjoy and we will play in the future. I’m looking forward to playing with everybody.

“It’s no training. It’s just sometimes you just feel good with some players, and I feel good with everybody. I have to watch what they are good on and Matt likes to do small passes and do small movements, so I try to give him the ball and help him on the overlap.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There’s certainly something about the partnership between Kulusevski and Doherty down that right-hand side that just works for Tottenham. They have a great understanding of one another’s game and always seem to make the right moves and passes to support each other. Let’s hope we see that far more often now they are both fit again.
